Senior Pastor

On this day in 1924, iodized salt first went on sale in the U.S. at grocery stores in Michigan. Why? Not exactly a claim to fame but Michigan was then part of a region known as the “goitre belt,” referring to enlargement of the thyroid gland due to iodine deficiency. (Terrible bumper sticker.)

Our Wednesday services continue through May 22. Join us 6:30-8:00 p.m. each week for youth/children/nursery, prayer and worship in the sanctuary and for healing and prophetic rooms. NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO YOUTH TONIGHT.

I messed up the time on the training on Saturday. It’s 10-11 a.m. at MORE Church. This is open to the public for anyone who wants to learn how to recognize human trafficking, which is a growing problem in this country, even in our area. Joy Conner will be training us on what to look for and what to do in these situations. The training is free. There is no childcare. For more information, contact Joy at joy@actscommunity.org.

The May First Fruits Offering will benefit two ministries – Acts Community and Mission 2540. We know this school year is not over yet but we want to help them with a ministry for next school year. Between the two programs, they will pass out an estimated 225 backpacks full of school supplies. The children receiving these backpacks are very low income and about 30 percent are part of the refugee programs in Amarillo (Burmese, Afghans, Sudanese, etc.) Please feel free to donate above your tithe to this offering all during May. Just mark your donation FFO or backpack program.

We have scheduled our  next healing and prophetic Sunday for May 26. The service will begin at 10 a.m.

Thanks to each of you who support the church financially every month. We could not operate without you. For those who would like to give, there are several ways. In addition to checks, cash and money order, you can give by text (84321), use your credit card at the church or by going online to our website, www.ilovemore.org. The most efficient way for the church is for people to give by bank draft. If that interests you, please contact Pastor Wendy.

Thought for the week:

Psalm 112:6-8: Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.

Brian invited his mother over for dinner. During the course of the meal, Brian’s mother couldn’t help but notice how beautiful Brian’s roommate, Jennifer, was. His mom had long been suspicious of a relationship between Brian and Jennifer and this had only made her more curious.

Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between Briand and Jennifer than met the eye. Reading his mom’s thoughts, Brian volunteered, “I know what you must be thinking but I assure you Jennifer and I are just roommates.”

About a week later, Jennifer came to Brian saying, “Ever since your mother came to dinner, I’ve been unable to find the beautiful silver gravy ladle. You don’t suppose she took it, do you?” Brian said, “Well, I doubt it but I’ll send her an email just to be sure.

So, Brian sat down and wrote his mom: “Dear mom: I’m not saying that you did take the gravy ladle from the house and I’m not saying that you did not take the gravy ladle. But the fact remains that one has been missing ever since you were here for dinner. Love, Brian.”

Several days later, Brian received an email back from his mother that read: “Dear Son, I’m not saying that you do sleep with Jennifer and I’m not saying that you do not sleep with Jennifer. But the fact remains that if Jennifer is sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy ladle by now. Love, Mom.”

You might be Southern Baptist if…(easy, it’s okay)

  • You can successfully name all the major missions offerings but can’t find Habakkuk.
  • You complain that the Church of Christ people purposely have church earlier so they can have the seats closest to the buffet.
  • You feel guilty about throwing bulletins away.
  • You have never sung the third verse of any hymn.
  • You met your spouse at camp.
  • Your preacher has a fried chicken belly.
  • You’ve been hit by someone’s cane because they thought you were getting their seat.
  • You thought Lottie Moon was a Biblical figure.
  • You ever wondered when Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong would get paid off.
  • You think someone who says “amen” while the preacher is preaching might be charismatic.

Great ways to deal with the burdens of life:

  • Accept that some days you are the pigeon and some days you are the statue.
  • Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.
  • If you can’t be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
  • If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
  • Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.

That’s all, folks. Enjoy the rest of your week.
