Lyndal Waldrip

Senior Pastor

This week we will look at what happened on March 21. On that date in 1980, J.R. Ewing was shot by an unknown assailant on the season-ending episode of Dallas. All the world wanted to know for eight months was, “Who shot J.R.?” The answer? You’ll have to look it up. I’m not telling.

We are having Wednesday services this week, 6:30-8:00 p.m. That includes all children activities as well as worship and prayer in the sanctuary. In addition, the healing and prophetic rooms are open. We will not have regular services March 27 because of Seder but will return again the week after that.

This Sunday is the final day for you to sign up for this year’s Seder Meal. Seder is set for 6 p.m., March 27, at the church. All tickets must be purchased at the church. Cost is $18 per person for those in the sanctuary, ages fourth grade and up. Birth through third grade will be in the nursery and we will feed them. The doors open at 5:15 p.m. on March 27. As usual, we will serve coffee, tea and water. You may bring your own wine or grape juice for the program.

Acts Downtown, 816 S. Van Buren, will host a free anti-trafficking educational seminar 2-3 p.m. on March 23. This seminar is open to the public and will provide good information on efforts to help people trapped in human trafficking. For more information, email joy@actscommunity.org or go to their website, www.actscommunity.org. There is no childcare.

For those who are interested in how to recognize human trafficking, MORE will be hosting the same educational seminar from 10-11 a.m., Saturday, May 4. The leadership and employees of MORE will be taking the training but we want to open it up to our members and attendees as well. It’s free. There is no childcare.

Thanks to each of you who support the church financially every month. We could not operate without you. For those who would like to give, there are several ways. In addition to checks, cash and money order, you can give by text (84321), use your credit card at the church or by going online to our website, www.ilovemore.org. The most efficient way for the church is for people to give by bank draft. If that interests you, please contact Pastor Wendy.

Thought for the week:

At MORE:

  • Our mission is grace and acceptance for all.
  • We value what God values – people and relationships.
  • Jesus spent the majority of His time on earth developing friendships. People are the most valuable thing in the universe.
  • Jesus said, “On love hangs all the law and prophets.” Why would our focus be on anything other than love?
  • Relationships and love are more important than theology.

Church Bulletin Bloopers:

  • “Correction: The following typo appeared in our last bulletin: ‘Lunch will be gin at 12:15.’ Please correct to read ’12 noon.’”
  • The youth group has raised almost $500 for drug abuse.
  • Any church member over the age of 18 is invited to participate in this lay ministry program. It requires a minimal amount of training and time. The orientation will include six weekly classes of about 200 hours each Tuesday night.
  • The last day of Vacation Bible School will include a field trip to the state game farm. We could use some additional volunteers to help preparing the lunch of sandwiches, potato chips, cheese, crack and cool aid that morning.
  • Remember the youth department rummage sale for summer camp. We have a Gents three-speed bicycle, also two ladies for sale, in good running order.

A little, old lady answered a knock on the door one day, only to be confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner. “Good morning,” said the young man. “If I could take a couple minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered vacuum cleaners.”

“Go away,” said the old lady. “I don’t have any money. I’m broke,” and she proceeded to shut the door.

Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and pushed wide open. “Don’t be too hasty,” he said. “Not until you have at least seen my demonstration.” And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse manure onto her hallway carpet.

“If this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse manure from your carpet, madam, I will personally eat the remainder.”

The old lady stepped back and said, “Well, I hope you’ve got a good appetite because they cut off my electricity this morning. What part of broke don’t you understand?”

For those of you who watch what you eat, here’s the final word on nutrition and health. It’s a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting medical studies.

  • Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
  • Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
  • Africans drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
  • Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
  • Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

Conclusion: Eat and drink whatever you want. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

That’s all, folks. Enjoy the rest of your week.
